[OT from cottage renovations]

there's nothing like a gentle morning rain for tearing out garlic mustard.  and the best place to do that is wherever the heck it can be found:  it's as much of a problem in Iowa as it is in Maryland.  Saturday morning's "A Fist Full of Garlic" pull was sponsored by the Friends of Hickory Hill Park.  the nasty stuff was crowding out a lovely patch of trillium in the spot where I joined in on the effort.  the rain had also brought out some morels, which I left undisturbed.  I know better than to mention them in this space.

plant sale

in the afternoon a neighbourhood plant sale was finishing up.  I was a gawker rather than a customer; as the rain continued some of the plants revealed interesting texture:
