[OT from cottage renovations]

along the railroad maintenance forces have been out replacing rail, not all at once (that was done some years ago the last time a system production gang came through) but here and there as needed.  a pile of the old rails has appeared next to the crossing.

these ends have interesting patterns of colour and texture which there was just enough afternoon light to bring out.

it almost looks like these sections were making an effort to blend in with the fallen oak leaves.

Your eye for details never ceases to amaze me George. The closeup is especially lovely, yet I doubt I'd ever have noticed the pile in situ.

Interesting indeed! Normally I wouldn't think of old rails as beautiful, but you've captured a very lovely interplay of colours. You have a good eye for details many people would miss.
