window and door for cam and cat

the only beneficial aspect of the otherwise unlamented former sliding glass door was the viewpoint it provided for the porch and cat webcam, and I was determined not to lose that capability.  the reworking of the front end also provided an opportunity to give the cats their own entrance.  installation of these features did entail lots of close fit detail work, as seen here by the cam itself:

watching this process through the catcam was reminiscent of seeing the film Being John Malkovich

here's the finished result:

the carpenters will be working another job for the next few days, but activity is expected to resume on Friday.  they have also advised that they can make up the storm windows and screens, which I had thought would have to be done by a specialty millwork shop.

You can tell it's a classy joint by the pediments over the cat door and cat cam window.

now this is an interesting notion. a porte-cochère is a porch (or, in contemporary usage, a canopy with an overhang) designed to accommodate a carriage (or an automobile). although the rebuilt porch already has sufficient clearance for even the largest of cats, finding a a way to include a feline equivalent (porte-chat?) to the cat door would pose an interesting design problem.
