an abundance of berries

[OT from cottage renovations]

just as the migratory birds are fixing to set off for the winter, everything seems to be bursting out in berries.  for the traveler, topping off the fuel tanks for a long trip a good idea; from the plant's perspective it enlarges the potential area to which seeds might be transported.

most of the dogwoods are looking pretty sad as this year's extended dry spells were hard on them.  a few seem to be trying to make up for the shortfalls of the others.  these images, however, are of holly and honeysuckle.
I guess we could say today's post is brought to you by the letter H

these neatly aligned square clusters of berries have such a very orderly look to them.

the translucent skin and liquid interior give these berries a glow which highlights the seeds within and backlights a passing ant (you might need to click through to see all the image detail).

[edit:I had forgotten to upload this last image before letting the post loose.  abundance is what today's series is all about; I was reminded of this in a providential email from the Grove's new pastor (I'm not in the congregation but have agreed to contribute some images to an ecumenical Thanksgiving Day observance).]

any retailer can tell you that one effective way to attract the attention of passing consumers is by laying out one's wares in massive and brightly colourful profusion.

Perfection! I have to say the middle one is my favorite! :D

now that there's a 4th image (due to an oversight on my part, since corrected) do you still prefer it?

By the way, I need to ask you a question completely unrelated to anything dealing with berries and photography of afore-mentioned berries:

Do you know anything about downloading fonts and using them within a Word document? I'm trying, but it's not working so well. All of a sudden, I don't feel so smart.

could you drop an email detailing the steps you have followed so far?

Yes. I could also sum it up as (1) Downloaded font file as zip. (2) Pressed "extract all files."

That's it, so far. I'm kind amazed that I finished university in a little under four years.

lots of questions

"detailed" would include what version of Windows you are running, what version of Word you have, where the .zip file came from, where you put it after downloading, where you had it write all the files that were extracted ...

none of that is difficult ...

It shouldn't be. Maybe I'm too much of a romantic today to be shaken back into techno reality. Perhaps tomorrow would be better for font victory.

fortunately you won't have to endure much of that shaking whenever the time comes.  figuring out where the files landed, and passing the word to the control panel fonts applet; that's all you will need.

you ought to be able to do that without impairing any of your romantic self essence.

BTW that's a nice A.H. iconpic.

Thanks. I'll try to give it another shot in the morning. Or whenever my romanticism wears off.

Audrey's my favorite, hands down. What a gal.
