first coat
yesterday was this week's only rain free day. that was good for the primary elections and even better for the painters, who primed everything in sight and even painted the S wall window sashes.
this morning was, as expected, overcast and sporadically rainy. not much light to work with but here's how things looked.

even under indifferent illumination the façade is looking good in primer. the decorative trim piece from over the upper window will be reapplied after the finish coat.

I wish it was made of gingerbread.

that fresh primer coat does rather resemble the icing on a cake.
the archival photos don't show the place as having had lots of gingerbread trim. where no. 15 and no. 13 now stand (the latter is to the R just out of the frame of the image at the head of this thread) there had been three cottages. no. 11, which was torn down in the late 1950s, had ornate trim around a round or octagonal upper front window. it was probably the prettiest of the three. I had been tempted to replicate its trim onto the place, but couldn't really bring myself to do that.
I'll try to put up an image of it over the next day or so: a glimpse of the lost 3rd cottage from the row.

And there's none in sight.
Maybe it's a good thing that your place ISN'T edible. It could be a liability if I lived any closer.
re: house hunger
that's already an issue from a different source: carpenter bees. as far as they're concerned, one piece of dead wood is no different from any other. but interestingly enough it's only an issue with the late 1970s additions; the older parts of the place have not suffered from them.

the archival pictures are now posted (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/97860.html).
