County DOT bridge crew

[OT from cottage renovations]

this crew of trolls from Montgomery County Dept. of Transportation & Public Works showed up for the 4th of July parade but were disqualified on account of nonresidency.  they did, however, receive a consolation prize -- after all, they did show support for the 2005 "let's do it the Grove way" design alternate.  though a couple of weeks have passed a late recognition of their appearance is better than none.

only a pack of trolls would seek to demolish our historic bridge.

That's neat that they acknowledged them for their spirit. I can't understand the thinking behind destroying something historic. It's just so sad.

the County's initial proposal was for a huge concrete monstrosity that would completely blight the Grove.  even the "smaller" alternates were completely out of scale with the setting and with existing and projected traffic patterns in the area.  but the builders and developers pwn our County government and the best we've been able to do has been to get a deferral of the damned thing; it's still in the longer range capital plan.

as to this particular ragtag group there's a chance that it just might be made up of disguised Grove residents, possibly including a former Mayor, a former member of Town Council and perhaps even a current Town employee (this is, of course, pure speculation on my part).

the bridge replica was in last year's 4th of July parade on a float as part of the "save our historic bridge" campaign.  but a float (or gang of trolls) hauling around a icon representing a joke about our bridge is likely as incomprehensible to off-islanders as the annual appearance of the Grove Woman's Club Cross Country Ski Team.

trust me, it does make sense.  I'm just not sure how to explain it.

BTW...we are redoing our son's room for his birthday...I'll post before and after photos when it's done....I thought you might enjoy them.

oh, I don't know about that.  it all gets past me, I think.
one troll pretty much looks like another, and as parade judge for that age group that's the story I'm sticking with.
but it can be hard to keep it all straight: having built the bridge effigy for last year's parade I was judging my own 3-D representation of my own satirical alterations of my own photo.  no need for a conflict-of-interest recusal, though: all entrants get a prize.  what the judge does is assign a category to each, the sillier the better.

before- and after- makeover photos are always interesting.  do share.

bw,
I should certainly hope to have enough sense to avoid doing anything as stupid as angering a troll's mother.

the young lady in question will always have a special place in my heart no matter how trollish she might ever become ... (after all you do have all those wonderful years of her adolescence to look forward to)
