on strike - or a lockout?
[OT from cottage renovations]
for several months now I've been, shall we say, not exactly on speaking terms with my writing muse. she stomped out late last year and other than for a couple of brief flashes has been staying the heck away. that's O.K., these things happen and there's nothing one can do about them. it just means I haven't been able to write worth a [colourful expression]. the consolation was the continued presence of her colleague my image muse. I had been reasonably satisfied with some of this year's images so in that regard at least things had been going reasonably well.
this was too good to last so of course it didn't. in particular, going through images from the 4th of July I found flaws in most and deleted almost all of them without releasing a single one. this omission did not go unnoticed and the bamboo walker sent an email to ask what happened to that day's images.
for the image lapse, at least, I do have an excuse explanation.
yesterday my new omthamologist confirmed the extent of recent visual deterioration, to which she responded with a new and much stronger prescription.
the next pair of glasses will be several days in the grinding and fitting but at least some relief is in prospect.
and perhaps my visual muse will stop sulking in her tent like Achilles.
it's probably too much to hope for that she could lure back her verbal associate.
no doubt they've been playing Yahtzee or doing whatever it is that muses do when they're off duty.
I wouldn't have a way of knowing that.

do you think a come back all is forgiven approach would help?

well, Salt Lake City sure as heck didn't have that effect, though perhaps it might have if I'd had the sense to go there on no. 5 (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2006/06/29).
