door details
the carpenters were quite frustrated today because they felt it was taking them too long to get anything done. today's tasks involved a lot of detail fitting and adjustments and I didn't share their dissatisfaction.
the french doors were fitted with mortise bolts on one door and an entry mortise lock on the other (when obtained it came only with a mortised passage lock even though its face plate was provided with a keyhole).
fitting a mortise bolt is one of those tasks that calls for a skill level sufficiently far beyond mine that I find it fascinating to watch.
the result is a thing of beauty.
regarding the lock one is reminded that an older house provides excuses to place decorative elements in locations where they might be seldom, if ever, seen.
