travel reading - outbound flight

[OT from cottage renovations]

Laura Hostetler: Quing Colonial Enterprise (ISBN 0-226-35421-0)

started this on Amtrak but got bogged down.  living proof that not every PhD thesis should turn into a book.  but it picked up at the end.

Christopher Benfey: the Great Wave - Gilded Age Misfits, Japanese Eccentrics and the Opening of Old Japan (ISBN 0-375-75455-5)

another Christmas present to Taunton, which he has lent me back to read.  way good stuff.

Your mention of Taunton promts me to ask the question which I did not ask the other day and, instead, went a-lookin' fer back in your blog archive. I did not find an explanation.

1) You've mentioned a Wonder Boy in past entries. Who is this juvenile superhero?

2) Is he from question number one the same person as Taunton?

ah, yes, sorry, that hasn't been made clear.  mea culpa.  I do hope the old posts weren't too tedious.  I must admit to having read back through yours in order to acquire context.

he is indeed the very one.

And this Taunton Super Hero: is he your son? your paper delivery boy?

I'm full of questions.

oh, dear.  somewhere along the way I seem to have omitted the obvious.  yes, he is my son.

yes, after a fashion.  but I think I'll put that in its own post rather than a comment, if you don't mind, to make it more accessible to others (some of whom may not be in the habit of following comment threads) who may be following the tale of this silly week's events out here.
