roses in the afternoon

[OT from cottage renovations]

down on Chestnut Avenue this English rose is blooming with a wild abandon.  afternoon sweetlight seems to bring out the best in its flowers so I made a point of being there to try to take advantage of the felicitous combination.

back at home the same light came streaming through Mrs Carter Emmons' rose bush (previously noted in entry for 13 June 2005).  I believe it to be same variety.

they're on Chestnut Road, in the yard of the house next to chez Time Travelers.  they are lovely at any time but for the soft, streaming light seen in these images it's best to be there late in the afternoon, say an hour before sunset.  don't put it off too long, they won't be at their peak much longer. 

from your place it's just a few steps off the route to the Post Office.
