[OT from cottage renovations]

two developments today:

• at ground level, a scattering of holes is visible in the yard.  they are approx. 3/4 inch in diameter. 
• from up in the trees, cicadas spring peepers are audible.  the sounds are coming in sets of two bursts, each at a different pitch.

intestingly enough, their sound attenuates quite rapidly over not much distance.  while out walking last night I noted that it became inaudible after walking only a few hundred ft. away.
