today's break from the rain provided an opportunity for resumption of North wall deshingling.  when the top course of shingled plywood was removed, behind it was revealed a small elegant structure that clearly had been abandoned years ago, before completion.

rather than attempt its removal myself -- it appeared far too delicate for my own unskilled hands -- I contacted Betsy Klinger, the Grove's resident apiarist.  she came over and gently extracted it in one piece.  for anyone who would like to take a closer look, it will be joining the nature specimens on exhibit in the Acorn Library.
