assessing damage and a temporary patch
the builders showed up first thing and got going right away. with rain in the day's forecast this was appreciated.

antenna farm
the two data antennas were carried away by falling limbs but the voice antenna stayed put. since there wasn't any loss of electrical power or internet connectivity the radios and their computer stayed on the air though the data yeild must have dropped to zero.
base plate for magmount antenna
the magmount base plate had survived Isabel but Hanna's trees were too much for it. there hasn't actually been an antenna on it for some time so it's NBD.
the casing for this data antenna was cracked right open
this antenna was custom fabricated for its receive frequency range. neither it nor its housing was designed to hold up against the impact of a tree limb.
roof
look ma, no ridge pole
not to worry - there never was one.
cross braces are located lower down which explains why the trunks came to rest where it did.
the TIG side sheets broke under the impact and weight, no surprise there.
chimney
definitely shy of a few bricks. not used as a chimney any more; it's a vertical duct for the furnace's water vapour vent. the bottom ends of the PVC pipes will need to be checked out by the heating people.
temporary patch
the space under the roof and above the ceiling was sufficiently accessible as to avoid any immediate need for exploratory surgery.
working from the inside
clearing away broken tiles and loose wooden bits
detail
note fresh limb cut in distance -- it had helped to support the top of the oak tree when it came to rest.
detail
note the original tin roofing shingles, visible under (at least) a couple of layers of asphalt shingles. it's a shame about all those perforations -- there must be thousands of nail holes up there.
temporary patch
plywood is better than a tarp and once covered is less unsightly.
outer patch layer
covering it over with roofing felt
outer patch layer
securing it in place
the adjuster from the insurance company is due tomorrow morning.

the trees came down in the afternoon; I was downstairs on the computer at the time. the trees didn't come through the ceiling but I wouldn't have wanted to have been up there anyway. proximity to the front door was highly desirable and I must admit to having made immediate use of it.
