pinking out
[OT from cottage renovations]
the Virginia bluebells are nearing the end of their run. it's been a good year for them but not a great one; certainly they've done better in the past.

Bittersweet Cottage garden
a couple of warm days and some hard rain seems to have been enough to trigger their internal kill cycle. stems are beginning to droop outward and the blossoms are shifting colour and starting to fall away, leaving behind the seeds in which next year's hopes are stored.

even though they can't last forever, I'm always sad to see them go. they didn't hang around as long this year as they have in the past but their time, however long or short it may have been, is always the best part of the year for me.

re: It must be nice to have flowers.
thanks for stopping by, glad you have been enjoying the images and the ability to share our spring even if at a distance. for all the years you've been up there in AK, I still can't get over your ability to make it through those winters. there's no practical difference between being a wimp and knowing one's limits: I know better than to try the arctic life.
Canada geese -- would you like more of them? they have taken to living here year round and have become quite the nuisance. without going into details, let's just say that their fecal output is truly phenomenal and leave it at that.
thanks also for your flight updates; check your email for my reply.
