[OT from cottage renovations]
Hellebore, Snowdrops and Winter Aconite are currently in bloom. in today's blustery chill I only managed to obtain images of the latter two.

Galanthus nivalis
most years the snowdrops come up so quickly I never manage to see the shoots as they first emerge from the ground.
Galanthus nivalis
the view above is outlined against the setting sun.
this viewing angle involved lying down in the leaves and dirt (in white trousers, of course) but the sight was worth it.
the winter aconite is still a bit tentative: despite the encouragement of the past few warm days, today's conditions seemed to show that a certain amount of caution is not unwarranted. this stuff is pretty hardy, though, and can take the overnight lows in stride.
