layers aloft, and stalactites return
recent posts about three inch blizzards didn't get tagged as OT because they had provided an excuse for posting pretty cottage-in-snow images. but the time has come to get back to some content with a plausible connection to cottage renovations.
although it might be a few weeks until I will have the time to actually get to it, I did want to expose some of the flooring in the loft in order to look at it with refinishing in mind.
perhaps the upstairs space had been used as an attic, or if as living space it must have been somewhat rustic. the floorboards do look old, but they don't seem to have been finished.

the paint spatter isn't too bad, and it's interesting to note that the railing posts are not now located where they (or previous ones) had been before.
I've never refinished a wooden floor before (not that a lack of even the slightest clue about what I'm doing has held me back yet) but what I want to do is to sand off the paint blobs and protect the wood beneath without necessarily changing its finish all that much.
it also marks the return of stalactites, only these ones are upstairs rather than outside. at some point it would probably make sense to lay down some beading to give the posts something on which to stand.
