Saturday: deck after rain

the rain, so long anticipated, took forever to move on.  according to weatherbug_wges we seem to have ended up with something like three inches over the course of four days though it rather felt like more than that.  certainly the routine of going through two extra changes of clothes a day was getting a bit tedious.  even so it didn't all come as gullywashers so perhaps the periods of long soaking having come before everything goes completely dormant will help to limit the damage from the year's drought. 

in the afternoon light the surface of the deck out back is all shadow and texture.

And I can hear the leaves cracking.

The shadow of the bolt across the leaf looks like a saw blade. So very cool. Especially knowing you didn't manipulate the subject matter.

yes, you're right, on seeing this found composition I hurried inside to fetch camera before the light angle could change. 

post-image manipulation consisted of sweeping these (and many other) leaves off the deck in order to give sun and breeze a chance to dry things off.
