modeling the galactic spiral

the athletic field in Woodward Park is closed for maintenance.  a couple of truckloads of dirt were brought in, dumped, and spread around to fill up some of the low spots.  the grass has been reseeded and with drought conditions continuing it has been needing regular watering. 

as the irrigation device shuttles back and forth along its feeder line its spray traces spirals through the air, the droplets catching the afternoon sunlight and looking like a three dimensional model of a spiral galaxy.
