[OT from cottage renovations]

Thursday night/Friday morning the Grove's accustomed quiet was intermittently replaced with the sound and light of some amateur pyrotechnics. starting around 02:04 for about 40 minutes we were treated to the sight of skyrockets and the flash-and-bang of, I don't know, M-80s, palomas or something like that. they were loud, all the more effective for most everybody having had their windows open.

I didn't keep a careful tally but it was between one and two dozen detonations. it was clear from listening to the sounds that no weapons were involved so I wasn't particularly worried. youthful high spirits, that's all it was.

I don't know how many folks might have called 911 but if there was any immediate response I wasn't aware of it; nor has any mention been made of the incident on the Grove's listserv or through our Neighbourhood Watch. but six hours later a County motorcycle officer rode around the Circle and up the walkway. in the 17 years I've been here it's the first time I've ever seen one in the Grove. normally when they come through it's on the roadways in a patrol car.
