the last few days of rain were preceded by a warm and sunny day.

morning light brings both shadow and texture to these dogwood blossoms. the rear petal of the foreground blossom curves over it like a sail filled with wind.
the view from the side brings out this stalk detail.
it won't be long until the red poppies start blooming.

on Saturday mornings there's a farmers' market across the river where the mushroom vendor provides a feast for multiple senses.

not my favourite flower.
it's probably not their fault -- far more likely it's mine -- but for some reason I've never particularly cared for them.

even so there's something impressive about the way this blossom is situated up on its stalk; about its shape, form and texture; and about how it catches the light. impressive enough to get into this space despite my usual prejudices.

one of Sunday's respites from weekend rain afforded this chance to admire all that's in bloom, not the least of which is the redbud.

in choosing between different views of the same subject I don't always find it possible to decide which one is worth posting. sometimes the deadlock is resolved by holding back on both candidate images. the alternative is to damn the bandwidth and go with both of them.

it's sad but inevitable that each season the Virginia bluebells get to the end of their run.
