this image from the Los Angeles Times web site has become deeply stuck in the visual part of my mind even though it's only been an hour or so since I first saw it:

its impact has nothing to do with any memory of living there through fires; rather, the image stands on its own, but seems to be heading off in several directions at once. 

is it just me, or does it do the same to/for anybody else?
