[OT from cottage renovations]

I hadn't been planning on going anywhere today.  Vermont next week, yes; and California a couple of weeks later, yes.  but not anywhere else, not today.

so it was a bit of a surprise this morning to learn of a 956 mile offset in my location.

[livejournal.com profile] judywatt posted a link to walkscore.com, a site that rates a location's walkability using an API to Google maps.  it determines an address from two args: street + number and postal code.  fair enough.  but give it 15 the Circle and 20880 and what you get is the 20800 block of Route 15 in Concordia Parish, Louisiana.  it doesn't rate as very walkable, either.

if I'd had any sense I would have stuck around for some of that cajun cooking.  mmmmm.  but no leisure for that: I was lucky to get back in time to feed the kitties.

things have been way dry here for quite a while.  the Grove's trees are in distress and Maryland farms are expected to lose 80-90% of the corn crop.

as of right now the weather radar shows one of those big, fast, wet systems heading in.  it's already passing through the WV panhandle with the leading edge around Martinsburg and Hagerstown.

it won't last for long and the rain it brings is sure to come in more or less horizontally, with a much greater propensity to run off than to soak in.  no matter, we'll take whatever we can get, whichever way it comes.

as the UK floods continue, the damage is getting worse but the headlines are getting better:
