I didn't make it home until late late last night (after midnight, actually, thanks to release testing and some issues with our operational network) so yesterday's work gets documented today; and with a need to head out early I didn't wait around for decent light. image quality suffers as a consequence but that's just the way it is.
the focus of effort on the S wall has moved to the midsection, where the tar paper is. it's being retained as a substrate so that piece will continue to be a bit wider than the adjacent ones. it now has vertical separators at both ends and a bandboard along its base.

of course this section, like the upper, is just a bit longer than the lumber of which the band board is made so a joint is needed. it's lapped at an angle and glued as well as nailed, just another one of those details, attention to which makes for a better result: excellence in carpentry.
edit: | this post was written in haste, such that I neglected to mention that during the course of yesterday's work some old newspapers turned up inside the wall. as one might expect they had been wadded up to serve as insulation so extracting enough content to date them might take some effort. |
