walking back across the Circle to catch the light a bit earlier than yesterday shows these lillies under more conventional illumination.

this tree is on the edge of the Circle between 3rd and 4th Avenues.  something about it is particularly inviting to Grove kids; over the years all the ones I've known have gone through a phase of climbing it whenever they pass by.  some still do.

what caught my eye about it today was a different aspect, the interplay of light and texture on a section of its trunk near the base.

the deshinglement of the S wall is moving along at a brisk rate and has actually outpaced the availability of new old siding material.  the intermediate level between front and back is now beginning to appear, and sure enough there are differences.  this part of the wall has insulation that seems to be in reasonable condition, as well as a reasonable surface to which the siding will be attached.  the Excellent Trim Carpenter is acquiring the lumber from which the boards will be milled and will bring it all down when it's ready.

S wall deshinglement - 2nd level

the exposed wall layer is revealing a truth I hadn't expected to face: I'm living in a tar paper shack.
