1st Avenue

Mimosa

with the light coming from behind it like this, this one is more about the leaves than it is about the blossoms.  it doesn't really catch the light the way I saw it, but here it is anyway.

you might need to click through to see what's going on with that stalk.

Oh my goodness! You outdid yourself with these, George. With the light coming in from behind, especially on that first one, it's just wonderful. And the second one ... I don't know what to say.

These are breathtaking.

thanks, glad you liked them.  there was one other that I wasn't sure whether to include (not sure why, I guess I just didn't want to induce Mimosa overload in anybody).  here it is:

oh, my; what a compliment.

but I have to admit to having liked even more the only other image of your desktop I've ever seen: the view of Magnolia from the E portal of Graham Tunnel at MP 145.5.

to within a couple of miles, yes.  Magnolia isn't just any old place.

it was worth cross checking before hitting the submit button, though, and the reference material is in machine readable form hence readily accessible on this very computer.  it just wouldn't do to have responded with the wrong location.

I don't think I have ever seen a Mimosa flower before. I have of course heard of Mimosas, the drink, and since it is quite tasty I thought the flower must be special.
I see it is. Quite lovely. And the leaves are so tender looking.

  • seed pods on 16 October 2006 (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2006/10/16)

Thanks, I went back and looked at the previous posts. I had somehow missed them Maybe I hadn't added you to my friends list yet.
I'm curious, what does miss mimosa smell like?

it's lovely.  sweet, but not cloying; at its best in the evening air.

I may have seen Mimosa growing here in LA. I'll have to look closer when I see that pretty flower. The leaves are very distinctive so I should be able to ID it.

I have a night blooming jasmine and an angel trumpet plant that are blooming outside my living room window. They are right next to each other and I get a wiff of the jasmine, heady, pungent, a little spicey, and then a wiff of the trumpet, lemony, delicate, other worldly.
They are quite a combo.
