[OT from cottage renovations]
throughout the region and across the country Memorial Day was observed with a variety of activities and ceremonies. though smaller in scale than most, the one we attended yesterday was deeply meaningful to a few: the unveiling and dedication of a memorial plaque where a bronze propeller is displayed. the propeller came from the USS Pompon (SS-267), on which my father served during World War II and is one of her few surviving artifacts.

sorry, I guess you might as well get out your box of Crayolas® and colour me clueless.
it was a very brief and low key ceremony, the few in attendance were nearly outnumbered by City staff and officials. your Mayor turned up and spoke some suitable words even though none of the crew+family seemed to be registered voters in that jurisdiction; there was also an assistant to the City Manager, who read aloud your City Council's 27 March proclamation; the Rec. & Parks Dept. lady (I had neglected to note her title) and the Dockmaster.
so now that it's in place whenever somebody gets around to vandalising it with a marker pen or spray paint its assimilation into the landscape will be complete.

Greta was there, too. it was she who actually unveiled the plaque by lifting an 8½x11 sheet of paper that had been taped onto it about three minutes before.
I didn't mean to omit her from the pictures but until you pointed it out I hadn't realised I had left her out. Christie wasn't able to attend account she has already started her summer job as a horse wrangler at a dude ranch in northern Wyoming.
