the inevitability of biology

one thing is certain: sex is messy.  for weeks I have had oak tree pollen in eyes, nose, lungs and throat and as a result none of them are working as well as they should.

starting yesterday morning it got worse: Meg is in heat.

Oh dear

Is she spraying and yowling? At least she'll love on you a lot. Are you going to make an appointment for her to get spayed, or leave her as she is? My beloved little tortie, Harlequin, was probably in her first heat when we brought her home and got pregnant within the first couple of days we had her. She was really very young, and had been seriously malnourished in the early months of her kittenhood, so we went ahead and had her spayed, rather than letting the pregnancy progress.

some yowling but no spraying and (at least so far) no inrush of tomcats.  and today (at least so far) she doesn't seem to be in as much distress.  her Date with Destiny will not be that far off; I'll be calling the vet come Tuesday morning to discuss scheduling her surgical procedure.  the good news is that once that has happened she will have outdoor privileges.

I recommend using a Neti pot during allergy season. And eating local honey. And getting an air purifier. We did all of those things this year and Phil was actually able to go about life normally during the peak allergy season for a change. (I'm not sure how much of a difference the honey made, but it seemed worth a try.) Normally Phil is red eyed, miserable and snotful for a few weeks so this was a huge difference. He was even able to keep wearing his contacts.

thanks for the ideas.  thanks to [livejournal.com profile] betsy_beekeeper Grove honey is available -- I wonder how it could have an effect on allergic reactions?
