simple pleasures
[OT from cottage renovations]
I have long held that the primary beneficiaries of the Grove are our cats and our children. for that cats it's obvious: the environment is optimal for them, or at least the closest approximation I've ever encountered. for the children it's even better: not only do they get to grow up here, but they can think of it as normal. it goes into their internal baseline, against which they compare everything else for the rest of their lives.
but some things are so elemental that they don't really have anything to do with the Grove. for example, the sheer joy of running through the spray of a neighbour's sprinkler on a beautiful spring afternoon can be experienced anywhere water is used for irrigation. nonetheless it goes into that baseline, a contributing resource as it were.

the moment certainly was, and for once I thought the image captured its essence. if you look at this page from the date view www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2007/05/06 (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2007/05/06) the 1st and 3rd images are behind an <lj-cut> tag; between the 2nd and 3rd I preferred the 2nd because less of her shadow was (inadvertently) omitted from the image; the two of them must be as close to Botticelli as fortune (and, perhaps, skill) can ever take me. but then the 1st and 2nd give more prominence to waterspray than to face and have less subdued reflections of the trees in the standing water.
so in the end I could only get the series down to three images rather than one. thank you for your kind words and for having enjoyed these. now if I could only find a way to do this *and* pay the mortgage I wouldn't go back to la vida techna. but failing that I fear this little sabbatical will have to come to an end.

thank you. the one thing they don't show was her mom telling her "this doesn't take the place of your bath tonight."
the Wonder Boy was always good about baths when he was little, but when she said that it cracked me up.
