[OT from cottage renovations]

...  a London Plane tree!

the Circle

in the time since I came here the Circle has lost about 60% of its tree canopy.  of what remains most will likely be gone in ten years' time.  recent years have seen an increase in the the planting of replacement trees, but they take time to come along.  it should have been seen to done 20, 40 and 60 years ago but it wasn't.

as the large oaks come down their replacements are being selected for species diversity -- monoculture is not tolerated though I am secretly hoping for the squirrels to put LOTS of acorns into the ground.

London Plane Tree
Platanus acerifolia

among the recent arrivals is this London plane tree.  it's good to see it leafing out this spring.  the fringe trees (Chionanthus virginicus) planted last year are following suit (not illustrated).
