[OT from cottage renovations]

all too soon the Virginia bluebells are nearing the end of their run but until then the display gets better and better.  they're knee high or better, covering the side yard and spilling down to the back.  to my great pleasure colonies have been established across the paved road at the edge of the East Woods.

Bittersweet Cottage garden

believe it or not there's a flagstone patio under this carpet of blue, pink and green.  porch and swing in the background; avert your eyes please from the T-111 siding and crap modern window the the L; focus instead on the hydrangeas leafing out.  in the distance you might be able to make out a black plastic garbage bag folded over the back of the porch swing -- it has been filled with the dreaded garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) and set out with others for trash collection.  no mulching for that nasty stuff, only the County's high temperature incinerator will do.  last night's soft rain loosened the soil enough to really make it easy to pull them.
