[OT from cottage renovations]

I've lived here for going on 17 years. 

before that the place was vacant while it was being fixed up by two couples who bought it as an investment. 

before that it had been a rental for a while. 

before that it was occupied by ... somebody whose mail has started showing up, in the form of charitable solicitations from a no-kill animal shelter in northern Virginia.  it's a worthy cause, the sort of thing I have been known to support in the past.  but it has to have been 20 years since the addressee lived here.
