[OT from cottage renovations]
two inches of rain followed by 24 hrs of winds gusting to 50 mph can be problematical. the trees get heavy and the ground gets soft, so they come down either in pieces or all at once. it's the downside of our cute little cottages nestled under the large oaks.
here in the Grove we lost two large trees this moring; one came down and took out the main power feed for about half of our homes. the impact dislodged one of the power poles so the wire crews can't work the incident until a pole crew can get to it with suitable equipment. there's no estimate from the power company as to when they can restore service.
this post comes via laptop and an open wireless access point located somewhere that still has power and connectivity.
about an hour later we lost one of the big trees in the Circle. it managed to come down directly along one one of the walkways, right between two houses without damaging either one.
this weather is predicted to continue for another 24 hours or so. we're hoping against hope that we won't lose any more trees.
updates to follow at some point.
