Forts Ferry Road, Latham
following the river further downstream we got to Forts Ferry shortly before sunset.
there's another broad bend in the river here, as seen from the abandoned rail line that's now a bike trail.
Erie Boulevard
the view down Erie Boulevard is dominated by the G.E. plant, or it used to be before they built a spur from Interstate 90 into the area and filled it with a three dimensional maze of on- and off-ramps.
Building 37 still has this large sign. it isn't neon: it's made up of a large array of incandescent bulbs though at some point along the way the monochrome I remember gave way to red, white and blue. whether the colour shift was caused by some bout of patriotic fervor or by the needs of corporate marketing, I don't know. there's also an excellent chance that I'm not recalling it correctly.
detail
and if you haven't lived in Schenectady, or if you did but weren't associated in some fashion with General Electric, it's probably No Big Deal if not completely incomprehensible. the culture and world of which it was an icon doesn't really exist any more, but it is in an odd way comforting to know that the sign still shines on into the dark.
