... those ready-to-pop-open buds did just that.  a couple of warm days was all the encouragement they needed.

they look a little crinkly, but then I would, too, if I had been jam packed into that little bud the way these had been.

this would have been an excellent opportunity for a time lapse study, something worth trying to keep in mind for next year.
