another long and busy day with much accomplished.  it also provided the opportunity for a couple of studies in my brother's garden.

afternoon backlight slants down, setting these nectar tubes aglow.

succulents

years ago when I lived in the region I fell for succulents.  sedum, crassula, euphorbia, echeveria, kalanchoe, lithops: they all do well out here.  this one is putting forth a fine display, worth catching three times to get it in different lighting.

Beautiful closeups, as always.

The wilted blooms seem to get progressively more shrivelled in the second set of pictures — they're dry husks in the last shot, but in the first one they still seem to have moisture left in the petals. How long were the intervals between shots?

the last two images were indeed taken later in the afternoon of the same day; the times were 12:30 and 17:12 respectively.
