[OT from cottage renovations]

incidental to last weekend's photo shoot for the Field Legal Defense Fund calendar I had hung the two small wreaths back up on the front doors.  they didn't end up visible in the background of any of the shots, but they might have. 

it's a high church thing to leave Christmas decorations up through Lent, presumably to get dried out and shriveled up and thus add to the air of austerity.  that hardly applies in my case, but what I have noticed is that on opening the doors this lovely bit of pine scent comes wafting through, sort of a counterpart to the pot of mint in the kitchen's S window, so for that reason I might leave them up for a while.

I myself hold with the English folklore idea that one must remove all Christmas decorations by January 6th, lest evil spirits inhabit them, and the seasons not change properly. In my view they look truly and completely tacky, as well.

this makes me wonder whether by putting them back up on the hooks I caused the weather to turn cold again (or to have briefly turned not cold).  that seems like more responsibility than I can handle.
