work, rest, work ... and fresh paint

monday was a busy day for the trim carpenter and all the painters.  they got a lot done, and the result of their efforts looks pretty good, but making it happen must have worn them out because tuesday nobody showed up.

that day of rest must have been quite refreshing because this morning many painters descended upon the place to make another big push.  they spent the day going after details, applying a second finish coat in several places and starting on the S wall.  here's how it looked at the end of the day:

fresh paint from NW
as seen from the NW ...

fresh paint from SW
... and from SW

an unanticipated effect of the dark green window sashes set in the white frames is that the curtains are now accentuated.  this may or may not be A Good Thing:  if too much attention is drawn to them somebody might notice the "fashionable" tiebacks:

cable tie as tieback
unlikely to meet Martha Stewart's minimum standard

the only remaining external carpentry is the fitting and placement of the upper bandboard.  inside, the N and S walls need to be finished.  I don't know when the trim carpenter will be coming back to do it.

tentative date for The Dedication is Saturday 1 October Sunday 2 October.  sneak preview tomorrow [Thursday] evening -- the Grove writers' group monthly meeting will be held here regardless of the condition of the premises.

Paint colors

I like the combination of yellow and dark green very much. I do suggest, however, that you replace the plastic cable ties with more, uh, elegant tiebacks.

throwback tiebacks

yes, thank you, the colours have worked out rather well.

the tiebacks will have to continue to serve in a temporary capacity until more of the interior issues are addressed.  given that the walls are still torn up in the front room, details such as window treatment are going to have to wait a bit longer.
