deferred gratification
[OT from cottage renovations]
Luna is one of the volunteers who helped with Meg's early socialisation. at their first meeting they bonded in an instant.
last week she (Luna) had that infelicitous combination of a birthday and a cold. for the former she asked for a chance to pet Meg, and I'm told she was quite disappointed when medical clearance for a walk across the Grove was not forthcoming.
by this afternoon the sniffles were done with and while her siblings were engaged with the time travelers she had the chance to come over to visit her little friend, resulting in a great deal of scampering and a good time being had by all.
I hope she found it worth the wait.

none of which I am aware, but it's been brutally cold 'n' windy. I have no problems with an abundance of caution.
Luna and her best buddy Grace, who lives across the Circle, I have often described as feral children, by which I mean completely free spirited and otherworldly in an elfin sort of way (see, for instance, this image from last year's Music Weekend (http://pics.livejournal.com/15_the_circle/pic/000tdy35/g64) or this one of the two of them (http://pics.livejournal.com/15_the_circle/pic/000teasb/g64)). I'm sure this attribute was part of why she bonded so quickly and deeply with Meg. there may be something about the Grove that brings out such traits in its children; certainly those traits in them bring out the best in the Grove.

This has to be true...I see the photos and long to live there....
Why I asked about her health, was because the doctor was involved...I guess it's the Mom in me....

it was her mom who had deferred the visit on medical grounds. sorry to mislead, perhaps I should have been more clear in the reply.

I had a sick sister when I was little who passed away when I was 10... my protective nature was in full force even when I was a child...hence the curiosity about the childs health. I thought maybe I had missed a post or something about her. Thank you for letting me know she is ok.
I wanted to tell you that my favorite photos of your cottage are the night ones with the lights of the house glowing. It is so inviting.

one of the reasons we have such a wonderful crop of kids is that they have such cool moms. and dads.
sorry to hear about your sister. that's not the sort of experience one ever gets over.
it's just a bit over two years since I saw my little sister; a few months after that trip she died in a freak household accident. being in your 50s doesn't make it any easier to take, not that anything ever does.
thank you, I'm glad you have have enjoyed them. actually the night images go back to September (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2005/09/09) and December (http://www.livejournal.com/~15_the_circle/2005/12/02) 2005. so long ago it was back when actual renovation was going on around here.

(Anonymous) 2007-02-07 02:00 am (UTC)(link)I'm so sorry about your sister. My sister was ill, so we knew it was going to happen, I think it is really hard to loose someone unexpectedly...My thoughts are with you.
There's a saying that I read recently that touches on this subject...
"Good days give you happiness; bad days give you experiences; both are essential to life."
