new arrival
[OT from cottage renovations]
there's a new face on the block in the Circle.
a very small one.
and cute, too.
this kitten was found in the woods in West Virginia, and after a brief period of foster care has taken up residence in the cottage.

what's in a name? her distinctive nutmeg colours are quite striking, and anybody this small needs a diminutive, so please meet:
Meg

a felicitous coincidence which I'm glad you are choosing to take well.
strictly speaking I suppose she ought to be entitled to a leading apostrophe (as in 'Meg ) to make the diminutive absolutely clear, but I doubt it will enter written or verbal usage.
and she really is tiny. the image doesn't do justice to how completely miniaturised she is. she's difficult to photograph but I will try.

uh, I think I already have.
Peake, who was not consulted in this decision, has been in a bit of a snit since she showed up Saturday afternoon but I am expecting things to work out over time. I have never thought of him as a large cat (he's long, not big) but he does tower over her.
her vet appointment is tomorrow morning. I won't really feel comfortable until good results come back from FeLV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_leukemia_virus) and FIV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_immunodeficiency_virus) tests and she has her immunisations.

if you click through the image to the highest resolution on a standard size monitor, the cat you see is on the display is larger than she is.
