news from 87 years ago

of the wadded newpaper fragments recovered from the interior of the S wall yesterday and today, two bear partial dates: 1919.  they're as brittle as all get out so I'm trying not to manipulate them.

I wonder whether any effective conservation methods exist for turning them back into legible sheets, however fragmentary, of newsprint.

I have heard that the use of hairspary will help prevent the brittle paper from falling apart in your hand. Never had the opportunity to try it myself however.

Maybe you could e-mail someone at the Library of Congress about archival restoration methods? So interesting to watch the renovation and wonder what will show up in the next open wall.
