[OT from cottage renovations]

I make no claim to mastery of the full range of ars domestica and in particular am intimidated by most fabric technology, but there is something satisfying about the task of ironing.  in smoothing out wrinkles with hot metal the results are so immediately tangible. 

but to iron a stack of shirts and then immediately pack same into soft luggage is at best an act of boundless optimism; more realistically it is one of sheer folly. 

here in la ciudad del lago de sal there is no sign of the advance party with whom I am to spend the week.  the colleage from the UK office was denied boarding based on imperfect visa paperwork, which he subsequently corrected only to not make the second day's flight as he was on standby and it was full, so he was going to try again but hasn't been heard from since.  our best engineer was also to have flown out here Thursday but the travel agency booked him on the following day's flight, since the departure of which he has been similarly incommunicado. 

I may not know where they are, and don't know when I will, but all is not lost:  I checked the closet and found both iron and board.

there aren't any out here.  closest ones are probably in Anaheim CA in the Disneyland pirates ride, and they're not even the real thing.  but if colleagues don't materialise on their own I will have to do some hunting.

Well, we've got quite a few in Merchantville (at least the ones that haven't drowned yet). If the rain ever stops and things warm up, no doubt they'll be out in force.

I'm looking to have a wood storm/screen door made for the front door of our house. Does the Excellent Trim Carpenter travel?

so far, catch up on customer emails from the hotel room.  be still my beating heart. 

what a sign of the times it is that hotels with in-room internet now seem so very quaint if it's an RJ-45 connection rather than wireless.

you can judge the E.T.C. by his works next time you come down, and if that sequence of events you mentioned happens to work out no doubt you will have occasion to meet him, too.  dunno if he travels but if you steal him away before the work is done, well, words fail me.  which, as you know, doesn't happen very often.

it has also given me a chance to take a closer look at the condition of the inventory.  looks like a bit of shopping is going to be in order as some of them need to be downgraded from office wear to around-the-cottage service.
