[OT from cottage renovations]

music weekend begins

Friday night in the Town Hall

the swing band comes and sets up,
their music floating down the walkways
and audible from
porches on the Circle
on a perfect spring evening

townspeople come drifting in
as dusk sets in
children swirling all about
fireflies come out
and flags are captured.

the band plays on:
foxtrot, waltz, two-step and polka.
dancers are energetic
and it's quite loud.
but what else can one expect
from sax, coronet, trumpet and trombone
in such numbers?

outside it's cooler and quieter
knots of people listening
and watching
and chatting softly
as scampering children
and dancers do their thing
while the band plays on
into the soft night.

a couple of floating images:
Dick C dancing with his daughters
Sarah S weaving and spinning
in her electric wheelchair
out on the floor
with grace and in perfect time.

the last number is played.
even the band members have stayed past their bedtimes
or so they tell us
and a public service announcement:
"we rehearse here every Thursday
come dance while we play
any time if you wish."

but wait!  there's more!
children's recital in the Town Hall
Saturday morning, followed in evening
by music under the stars
at the gazebo, where we will gather again
Sunday
for baroque breakfast.

music weekend is just beginning
and in the gentle morning light
the Circle is filled
with an a capella concert
by the songbirds.

I could listen to that thrush forever.

I've never left a comment before, I usually send any comments directly to George. I now understand from something I saw in the paper, that comments on Blogs are actually encouraged---boy am I behind the times....

So--WOW! Beautiful capture of the unique Grove ambiance. Your talents appear to have no boundaries.
