why cover up such a pretty face?

I'm expecting the builder to return soon, bringing a painter so they can prepare an estimate.  like everything else this is running behind schedule.  or not, depending on how you look at it.  Builder Standard Time is an elastic notion, and there's just no point in fretting over any imperfections in how it maps to "time" as the rest of us perceive it.  but I digress ...

whenever they do show up, their estimate will be the better for their having a more complete look at what is to be done.  with this in mind, over the weekend I decided that the time had come to remove the last of the shingles from the upper front.  I had left the lower course in place in order to not compromise the flashing, and at the top they were what the vent was attached to.

so off they all came, as seen in this flickr.com image (in which it is obvious that I need to lose some weight) taken by the staff of The Janus Museum.  to finish the job, the flashing needed to be folded and reattached and the vent mounted again.
what a difference it makes.

the front, without shingles.
finally.

the afternoon had been overcast but the sun came out for a few minutes just after the day's work had been finished and cleaned up after.
