a darkened plane climbs over the darkling plain

[OT from cottage renovations]

Saturday's flight was scheduled out of DCA (that's "National Airport", thank you very much) at 20:40 but didn't get out until around 21:30 due to crew rest delay.  both times were well after dark and as the jet ascended to cruising altitude the remains of the day were visible to the W though fleeting further ahead with every moment as the day's trailing edge outpaced our own progress.

the contrast of high altitude dusk and cloud shadows was accentuated by early starlight above and terrestrial lights below.  conditions were less than ideal for photography but these images will have to do.
