[OT from cottage renovations]

images in this space, well, perhaps some of them, might look reasonably O.K. on one's monitor but have been lowered in resolution and compressed in size for online publication.

one of the reasons for taking on the calendar project last year was to see what could be done with high end printing technology and with images whose technical quality has not been compromised.  it was also an experiment in finding ways to share images of the Grove with others, and for them in turn to share them with friends or family.

as a further step in this direction a selection of images from this journal, as well as some that haven't previously appeared, is now available from an online art gallery.  by visiting their web site one can select an image and then go on to specify a desired size, choices for framing and matting, even the paper or canvas on which it is to be printed and the ink to be used.  the gallery handles production and shipping: what you get is ready to hang on the wall.

here's the link:

please feel free to stop by and check it out.  better yet, pass the link along to anybody you think might be interested.

at the moment there are about 20 images in the studio's online gallery, selected from the journal's archive which holds more than 1,300 -- I haven't been in the habit of deleting posts or images.  so if you don't happen to see one there that you had enjoyed and of which you would like a high quality print to be available, just mention it in a comment or drop a note.  (a note on human subjects: as a courtesy to fellow Grovers I will not, as a rule, make available through the online gallery images of people, absent a specific request from a subject or from their parent or guardian).

as any of you who know me already know, I absolutely cannot stand engaging in self-promotion.  it is such a relief to get to the end of writing this and I appreciate your patience in reading it.

thank you.

Grove Avenue

this azalea is always one of the earliest to come out, and one of the brightest.  it's this impossible shade of red: a deep, almost Fire Engine red but with a dash of pink and of orange.

6th Avenue

not to be outdone, this camellia along the walkway is just as brilliant.

so, I ask: where are the hummingbirds?  this ought to be enough red to attract any number of them but here in the Grove we're still awaiting the first observation.  this spring has been completely glorious but it won't be complete without them.
