loft floorboards

with the revised method the front half of the loft is now done, except that the area treated with the first method will need a second pass. 

it's clear that the baseboard is going to need some quarter round along its lower edge, also the decarpetation has exposed a couple of spots where small areas of wood had been cut out.  the railing posts will need to be shimmed from beneath anyway in order to deal with the stalactite effect gap resulting from the carpet removal.  when this is done it will also cover the cutout areas.
