autumn sweetlight

[OT from cottage renovations]

the qualities of afternoon light this time of year seem to make it all too easy to get engrossed in the details of the small.  while heading down the walkway this afternoon I was brought to a full stop by a single fallen leaf.  look carefully (you might have to click through to a larger image) and you'll see how in catching the light it gave its little shadow a soft rosy glow.  stained glass without the glass.

Grove Avenue, lined with stately trees and historic cottages, is one of the epicentres of the Grove.  one cannot tire of walking on it:  there's always something different to see, a new aspect for study.  today it all seemed to have been encapsulated into a solitary leaf.

in the Circle there's a Japanese maple of which I keep trying to catch some images.  in the morning I can photograph the tree, but in the afternoon inevitably my attention is drawn instead to a branch, then to a cluster of leaves, and then, falling down into the spiral, to a single leaf.  the tree is still there but I'm just not seeing it any more.

the interplay of sunlight and leaves draws me away from other tasks but they'll just have to wait.
