today was a good day for making progress on tying up loose ends.
the 4 inch gap between the porch floor and N wall was spanned with a piece of wood cut to fit. it's straight and level which makes it unusual for the cottage if not for the whole Grove. I'll probably end up having to apologise to neighbours on its behalf.

the pediment was drawn, cut, trimmed and set in place. it will need a few more decorative touches but we're still giving thought to what form they will need to take.

in the afternoon the trim carpenter was joined by an electrician who set the outlets and switch boxes into the W wall framing. this will allow the window frames to be fitted out and the wall to be insulated and closed up. while he was at it he added an exterior outlet and rewired the porch lighting fixture. safe and reliable operation of the latter will take some getting used to.
the cats don't generally use their door while work is underway, so I'm hoping they didn't mind its dual use for snaking power cables. it was only necessary for the one day, as an outside outlet is now in service. the various machines and tools are actually fed from two circuits, one from the front room and the other from the crawl space.
