[OT from cottage renovations]

the worst of the cold spell is past -- we're out of the freezing range.  the M^cCauley Street magnolias aren't looking very happy but a goodly amount of what was in and coming into bloom seems to have made it through.  the latter is the most encouraging of all, of which the crabapple out front is a good example.
